Preserving Your Wedding Flowers

Updated: Mar 5

Preserving your wedding flowers is a beautiful way to keep the memories of your special day alive. Here are several methods to consider:

1. Air Drying

This is one of the simplest methods to preserve flowers.

  • Remove any excess foliage from the stems.

  • Bundle the flowers together and tie them with a string.

  • Hang them upside down in a dry, dark, and well-ventilated area.

  • Leave them to dry for about 2-3 weeks.

2. Pressing

Pressing flowers can create beautiful keepsakes for framing or crafting.

  • Choose flat flowers and remove excess foliage.

  • Place the flowers between two sheets of parchment paper.

  • Put them inside a heavy book or a flower press.

  • Leave them for a few weeks until fully dried.

Using silica gel can help retain the color and shape of your flowers.

  • Find a container that is airtight.

  • Pour a layer of silica gel at the bottom of the container.

  • Place the flowers on top and gently cover them with more silica gel.

  • Seal the container and leave it for about a week.

4. Wax Coating

Coating flowers with wax can help preserve their appearance.

  • Use paraffin wax and melt it in a double boiler.

  • Dip the flowers in the melted wax and let them cool on parchment paper.

  • This method provides a glossy finish and helps prevent wilting.

5. Resin Preservation

Encasing flowers in resin creates stunning, long-lasting keepsakes.

  • Choose a clear epoxy resin kit.

  • Prepare the flowers by drying them slightly.

  • Pour a layer of resin into a mold, place the flowers, and cover with more resin.

  • Allow it to cure according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

6. Professional Preservation Services

If you prefer a hassle-free option, consider hiring a professional.

  • Look for local florists or companies that specialize in flower preservation.

  • They can offer various options, including shadow boxes or preserved bouquets.

Choose the method that best suits your style and preferences to create a lasting memory of your wedding day!
